Helder Maia tem Licenciatura em Cenografia e Doutoramento em Belas Artes- Escultura pela Faculdade Belas Artes de Pontevedra da Universidade de Vigo. Articula a sua atividade de Cenógrafo em cinema e teatro com o ensino da Cenografia no curso de teatro da ESMAE - Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo – Instituto Politécnico do Porto, desde 1998, onde tem assumido a coordenação da área de cenografia entre 2008 e 2017, e novamente desde setembro 2021 a coordenação do Mestrado em Teatro entre 2008 e 2012 e o cargo e Diretor de Departamento de Teatro entre 2014 e 2020.

Desenvolve pesquisa em áreas relacionadas com a Expressão dos materiais na linguagem plástica do espetáculo, Intervenções artísticas em espaço e análise do sentido de sustentabilidade aplicado à Cenografia. 

Helder Maia has a degree in Scenography and a PhD in Fine Arts - Sculpture by the Faculty of Fine Arts of Pontevedra, University of Vigo. Articulates his activity as a scenographer in cinema and theater with the teaching of scenography in the theater course of ESMAE - Superior School of Music and Performing Arts - Polytechnic Institute of Porto, since 1998, where he has assumed the coordination of the scenography area between 2008 and 2014, and again since september 2021, coordination of the Master degree in Theater between 2008 and 2012 and the position and Director of Theater Department between 2014 and 2020.
